Teaching Violin to the Very Young Child, Vol. One is designed as a guide for teaching violin to children as young as 4 years old. This unique approach introduces the student to the F Major Finger Pattern, beginning with the 1st finger at the nut. This pattern, with the 3rd and 4th fingers close together, is easier and more natural for the small hand. Overview of Vol. One -In Part 1, the child learns to hold the violin, execute a few simple rhythmic patterns, hold the bow, and play the notes by rote imitation. -In Part 2, the child reads each note on the page as a word: open, one, two, three, or four. During this time, there is no playing. -In Part 3, the child plays the music with the understanding of each note as a number, not a letter name. About the Author Jennie Lou Klim began the study of violin, at the age of 6, with Ellen Reid Carter, who had studied at the New England Conservatory, the Fontainebleau in the Paris Conservatory, and in the private studio of Leopold Auer in New York, NY. J. L. Klim remained a student of Mrs. Carter for 12 years. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Western College, Oxford, OH, J. L. Klim attended numerous ASTA workshops at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN; University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI; Chautauqua, NY; Bolzano, Italy; and Lausanne, Switzerland.
